He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary A. Sutherland (MacDonald) and William J. Sutherland; his siblings, Alex, Johnny, Collie, Helen and Kay; and his son William.
He is survived by: his wife Edna (MacDonald); his sons, Bryan, Randy and Derek; his daughter-in-law Judi; his grandchildren, Kristen and Keenan; and his great grandchildren, Elsie and Colin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
