He was predeceased by: his sister Claudia; and his brothers-in-law, Charlie and Raymond. He is survived by: his wife Susan; his daughters, Sarah Sweeney (Ozgehan) and Lorna Sweeney Gale (Brendon); his grandchildren, Calum, Emel and Sibel; and his siblings, Joe, Ebby (Ann Marie), Jim (Carolyn), Judy, Paula, Barbara (Maurice) and Reva. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
