He was predeceased by: his parents, Ansle Patrick Dempsey and Catherine Dempsey (Power); his daughter Janice; his siblings, Jeremiah, Patrick (Lillian), Raymond (Violet) and Mary (Doug Purcell); his brothers-in-law, Bill Reardon, Brian Dempsey, Joe Arsenault, Harold Cameron, Albert O'Neill and Frank Kerr; and his children-in-law, Elizabeth Moar and Garry MacDonald.
He is survived by: his wife Laura Dempsey (Fraser); his children, Anne Warren (Peter), Marian (Glen), Catherine Brown (Tim), Lois West (Mike), Ellen, Edward (Lana), Matthew (Carla) and Fraser (Laurel); his siblings, Ansle (Barb), Joseph (Julie), Dennis (Barb), Doreen Reardon, Rosie Dempsey, Angela Arsenault, Shirley Kerr and Cathy (Fred MacDonald); and his sister-in-law Doreen Dempsey. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.
