He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilson Short and Rose Short (Granter); and his siblings, Frank and Ada. He is survived by: his son Dennis Short (Mary); his grandson Stephen Short (Andrea); his great grandchild Ellie; his siblings, Harold Short, Jim Short (Bonnie), Olive, Julia (Len) and Vera (Armine); and his siblings-in-law, Claude Barefoot, Shirley and Pearl.

“This message is for Eric Short's family... My name is Terri and I work at Princess Auto in Dartmouth, a place that Eric used to come to all the time. He became my friend at the old store where he started chatting and hanging about at cash with me. I could see what a great guy he was and we became closer as time passed. He was my favourite guy...he used to poke my neck with his cane while in line, and we always gave each other hugs and kisses. I miss Eric so much. Princess Auto isn't the same.”
