Theresa Gertrude Mombourquette Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Mother "Gert" lovingly referred to as "Nanny Goat" and "Dirty Gerty" on July 23, 2023. She was born in L'Ardoise, CB on June 1, 1933, to Hilaire L. Taylor and Mary Odille (Briand). Gert poured her love onto others and not only cared for her 5 children, 3 foster babies, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, but also her children's friends who often referred to her as their "Momma Gert". Her door was always open to family and friends, and anyone else in need. Gert's love knew no bounds and there was room for everyone in her caring heart. She had no problem putting on the kettle late at night when her children's friends needed a place to hang out as this meant they wouldn't be hanging out on the streets. Gert was a woman of many talents; crafting, baking, dress making, quilting, knitting and crocheting to name a few. In her later years, Gert and her sister Rita would knit hats, socks, and mittens for the homeless and anyone in need. She enjoyed Cape Breton fiddle music and loved attending festivals in Broad Cove. Her last years were spent living at Northwood Ivany Place with her sister Rita and her extended Ivany family. Gert is survived by her sons; Daniel (Jane), James Gregory (Patricia), Roy (Donalda), Peter Jackson, daughters; Janet (Stan Kroetch), Julie (Peter Bonner) as well as Linda Duggan, who was like a daughter to her, and Brian Norman, who was an honorary family member, also numberous nieces and nephews. As the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Cornelius, brothers; Louis, Frank, Fred, Walter, Charles, Herman and sisters; Hilda, Joan, Julia and Rita. Our heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Northwood Ivany Place.
