He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Edwin and Isobel Mildred Bagnell. He is survived by: his wife Heather Louise; his children, Alexa (Patrick Keefe), Philip Scott (Suzie Villacastin), Sheridan (Gregory Bailly) and Regan (Paul Yeatman); his grandchildren, Connor, Sawyer, Ian, Mac, Olin, Grant, Annika and Thatcher; his sister Isobel (Charlie MacLennan); his niece Christina; his nephews, Jeff and Kurt; and his family, Dr. Craig St. Peters, Dr. Lori Wood, Dr. Sue Robinson, Dr. Rob Berry, Dr. David Bell, Dr. Jeff Dempster and Claire Belliveau.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers to send contributions to the Salvation Army of Canada or the Molly Appeal at Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine.
