He was predeceased by: his adoptive parents, Fred, Eileen Manning and Sackville; his parents, Frances Gardner and Donald K. Dempsey; and his siblings, Rosann Steeves, Kevin Dempsey and Michael Dempsey.
He is survived by: his wife Christine Manning (Hatfield); and his stepdaughters, Michelle Hatfield and Gillian Hatfield. He is also survived by four nieces and five nephews.
