He was predeceased by: his parents, Timothy Patrick Nearing and Sarah Nearing (Barrett); and his siblings, Norman Duncan, Barry Wagg and Shirley Somers.
He is survived by: his wife Edna Nearing (Turner); his sister Grace (Allan Atwood); his children, David (Sandra Rowe), Darlene and Sandra (Bernie); his grandchildren, Taylor, Aaron Cameron, David (Connie Timmons), Brian Nearing (Bryna Mercer), Tammy Melnick, Neila Stubbard and MaryAnne Nearing (Arthur Flemming); his great grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Keaton, Brycen, Colby, Blake and Carley; his sisters-in-law, Janet House and Nacy Duncan; and his pet Bushes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sonny's memory to the Nova Scotia Lung Association, Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, St. Mary's Church, or a charity of choice.
