He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael McKinnon and Elizabeth McKinnon of Glace Bay; his brother Mike; and his parents-in-law, Earl and Irene Penney.

He is survived by: his wife Lori; his sisters, Lillian, Kathleen and Elizabeth (Dario); his siblings-in-law, Glen (Ann Marie) and Beverley (Butch); and his nieces and nephews, McKenzie, Logan, Sarah, Daniel and Kate.
