He was predeceased by: his father Hugh Warren Rae; his wife Jeanette Rae (Sinclair); and his siblings, Jessie Baker (Rae), James Mackenzie Rae, Hugh Mackay Rae and Alex Warren Rae.

He is survived by: his sons, Joseph (Barbara) and Donald (Laura Gallant). He is also survived by great-grandson Jaxen Lake; several nieces, and nephews.
