She was predeceased by: her parents, Leander Handspiker and Violet Handspiker (Hazelton); and her siblings, David, Jackie, Adelia and Janet.

She is survived by: her husband Fred Bates; her children, Tim Bates of Digby, Corey Bates of Digby and Sheri Coldbrook (Brad Freake); her grandsons, Kyle of Coldbrook, Kohl of Coldbrook and Kade of Coldbrook; and her sister Betty Jackson.
