He was predeceased by: his parent Calvin Oscar; and his siblings, Evelyn Taylor, Addie Van Tassell, Diane Wentzell and David Van Tassell.

He is survived by: his parent Margaret Janet Van Tassell (Amero); his wife Annette Marie Van Tassell (Belliveau); his children, Denise McCleave (Mike) of Berwick and Jamie Van Tassell of Bear River; his daughter-in-law Sara Van Tassell; his grandchildren, Karley McCleave, Michelle McCleave, Ryan Van Tassell, Melanie Van Tassell and Jodie VanTassell; his great grandchild Brooks; and his siblings, Joan Whynott of Calgary, Calvin "Skip" (Shirley) and Jim Alberta (Lois). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family has requested no flowers and instead if you wish, make a donation in memory of Mason to: Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a Fire Department in Digby County.
