He was predeceased by: his parents, Myra MacKay (Hamilton) and George MacKay; and his siblings, Joyce Stanley of Kernersville, NC, Dorothy Bartlett of St. Stephen, NB, Florence "Flo" Marshall of Trenton, NS and George MacKay of Trenton, NS..
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy MacKay (O'Brien); his children, Brenda Ivey (Don) of Dartmouth, John MacKay (Karen) of Norway and Darren MacKay; his grandchildren, Robert, Carolyn, Victoria, Nicole, Vanessa and Melissa; and his great grandchild Sierra. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
