He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Coolen and Mary Johnston Dodson; his wife Donna Coolen (Joudrey); and his siblings, Walter, Clarence, Donald, Richard and Hilda (Jackson).

He is survived by: his children, Glenn Coolen (Nicole) of Dartmouth and Chantal Coolen (Jeff Harper) of Upper Tantallon; and his grandchildren, Finn, Cate and Aileigh.
