He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Woods); his parents, James Edwin and Gladys Eileen Mitchell (Collins); his stepmother Mary (Tremblay); and his siblings, Edwin Douglas, James Brian and Lillian Penzvolta.

He is survived by: his daughters, Sherri and Shannon Shum (George); his grandchildren, Connor, Logan and Sidney; his sisters, Norah Sault of Hagersville, ON and Sue Bond of Brantford, ON; and his close friends, Phil Steele of Sooke, BC, Laura, John Macumber (New Glasgow), Peter, Pearl Janson (Digby) and Joan Murray of Chemainus, BC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
