Marion Frances Bourque Obituary

Marion Frances Bourque, age 82, passed away at home on Sep 15, 2023. Born on June 2, 1941 in Summerside, P.E.I., Marion was one of eleven children born to the late Harry and Agnes (Fitzpatrick) Simmonds. After almost two years apart, Marion has now been reunited with her late husband Yvon to whom she was married for 61 years.

Marion will be lovingly missed by her children Claudette (Pat) Hope, Dartmouth; Robert (Karen), New Waterford; and David (Alisha), Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Katelyn, Emily, Will, Sonia and Carolyn; as well as several great-grandchildren. Marion is also survived by brothers Bernard (Pat) Simmonds, Hartford, Connecticut; David (Jennie) Simmonds, Summerside, P.E.I; Austin "Hank" (Van) Simmonds, Chesley, ON; and her sister Sally Sonier (Serge Boulianne), St. Eleanors P.E.I.. Besides her parents, Marion is predeceased by her brothers Clair, Everett, and Carl Simmonds; and by sisters Wanda Gallant, Shirley MacDonald and Ruby Craig.

For many years Marion was an enduring Military-wife who made their family's home wherever Yvon's career sent them to Torbay, N.L., Greenwood, N.S., Kingston, ON., and Moncton, N.B.. Over the years she enjoyed a variety of work in retail, waitressing, hairdressing and of course as a homemaker. Following Yvon's retirement in Moncton, Marion and Yvon spent six years in Summerside, P.E.I. where they dedicated time to volunteering and are fondly remembered by the numerous exchange students they hosted from all around the world as their "Canadian Mom and Dad". In 2000, Marion and Yvon relocated to Dartmouth where they became members of St. Clements Church and enjoyed time with their family. Marion's legacy of generosity and giving to others, without hesitation, will be remembered by all who knew her. She was always thinking of others, and loved sharing all of the best things she found on sale while out shopping around and making friends wherever she went.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
