He was predeceased by: his wife Bonnie (Malcolm); his parents, Sabina (Atwater) and Allan Kinney; and his siblings, Dorothy (Swain), Elsie (MacDonald), Sarah Kinney, Marjorie Kinney, Connie (Campbell), Millard, John and Clayton.

He is survived by: his children, Darrell Kinney (Stephanie Hunter), Paula L'Oiseau (Dave), Belinda Kinney (Stephen Beed), Kendra Kinney and Melinda Kinney (Iain Powell); his parents-in-law, Pearl Malcolm (Anne Ferguson), Ida Bennett, Lennie Malcolm (Donna) and Patsy Fancey (Rodger); and his grandchildren, Ky Greyson, Peter L'Oiseau, Jimmy, Nicole, Beth Collicutt, Genna, Catie Beed, Nate and Isaac Powell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
