He was predeceased by: his parents, Royden McLean and Lenore Quinn; and his half-brother Robert. He is survived by: his pet Brutus; his wife Karen "Anne" McLean (Doucette); his sons, Ron of Halifax, NS and Ken McLean (Roberta) of Halifax, NS; his stepchildren, Jocelyne Scott (Randy), Harley Robicheau (Ocean), Wilmot and Greg Fairn (Anthea); his grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Danielle, Janelle, Katelyn, Logan, Landon, Khloe and Jayce; and his half-brother Jimmy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.
