She was predeceased by: her granddaughter Tayler McKinnon; and her children-in-law, Irene McKinnon (Brufatto) and Hugh Muise. She is survived by: her children, Gary McKinnon (Sandra), Deborah, Richard and Ellen Ferguson (Gregory); her grandchildren, Jason, Stephen, Katelyn, Brendon, Harley, Sarah, Emma, Luke and Breton; her great grandchildren, Cohen, Ava, Aurora, Hudson and Benjamin; her siblings, Helen Dubois (Tony), Audrey Buckler (Sherman), Elizabeth Wrice (Michael) and Merlin England (Mariam); and her former husband Edgar McKinnon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in Rita's memory, may be made to the Arthritis Society.
