She was predeceased by: her parents, James Smith and Margaret Smith (Kelly); her husband Lewis "Bud" Jess; and her brothers, Frank and Gordon Smith.

She is survived by: her brother Mike Smith (Teresa); her children, Don Cooke (Melinda) and Cathy Cruickshank (Stephen); her stepchildren, Tim Jess (Maxine) and Robin Breault (Bill); and her friends, Janet Poehl and Catherine Sanford. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
