He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hirtle and Alice Hirtle (Mailman); his half-sister Irene Feener; and his siblings-in-law, Rose Campbell, Murray Beck and Roderick Feener.

He is survived by: his wife Louise Campbell-Hirtle; his sons, Shane Hirtle (Susan Labelle), Shaun Hirtle (Felicia Whynot), Tyler Hirtle (Stephanie Misner-Hirtle) and Jeremy Hirtle (Charmaine Hachey); his grandchildren, Emilia and Zayden Hirtle; his siblings, Laverne Slauenwhite (Clarence), Darlene Mckean (Peter) and Curtis Hirtle (Donna Langille); his half-sister Mary Beck; and his siblings-in-law, Cindy Coady (Maurice), Marg Campbell (Bill Gow), Ronnie Campbell and David Campbell (Cathy Holden). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
