He was predeceased by: his parent Norman Oakes; his former wife Beulah Robar; his son Larry; and his siblings, George, Filmore, Margaret and Norma.
He is survived by: his parent Syble Oakes (Haines); his son Mill; his wife Betty; his grandson Kyle Oakes; his stepchildren, Annette Forward (Gilbert), Mark Knickle (Debbie), Cornwall, Katrina Jesso (Tony), Bakers Settlement, Sherry Church (Brian) and Lunenburg; his daughter-in-law Karen Oakes (David Miller) of Chester; his stepgrandchildren, Vangaline, William, Ryan (Tina), Brad Maline (Amanda), Chad, Marcus (Jerrica), Vanassa (Dylan), Jeremy (Kathleen) and Jonathan; his siblings, Donald Oakes Bridgewater (Marilyn Millet) and Joan Veinotte; and also, Richard, Betty and Mahone Bay.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Richard's memory may be made to The Journey Room at the South Shore Regional Hospital or to a charity of your choice, through the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg.
