He was predeceased by: his parents, Ellsworth W. Carty and Amelia S. Carty (O'Neil); his wife Cora Smith; and his brothers, Scott and Seymore Carty.

He is survived by: his sons, Terry Carty (Joann), Harbourville, Murray Carty and Rodney Balsor (Jill); and his siblings, Alvin Carty (Debbie), Digby Co, Lorne Carty (Sharon), Prescott, Ont, Elaine Belliveau (Phil), Alta and Louise Lewis (late Ashton). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
