He was predeceased by: his parents, John Shay and Lillian Shay (Boyd); his daughter Barb Mahar; and his siblings, Allen, Barbara and Colleen.

He is survived by: his pet Sam; his wife Reta (Davis); his children, Linda (Michael Covert), Kelly (Ted Mahar), Allan (Angela Carter) and Somerset; his son-in-law Rick Mahar; his sisters, Diane (Walter General), Sackville, Connie (David Browning) and Martock; his grandchildren, Weston (Megan Reville), Nina (Steve Matkin), Sarah, Shay-Lynn (Lucas Shelley), Cameron and Allison; his great grandchild Adam; and also, Melanie and Jill.

Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Carey-Me Fund (for palliative care in the home), the MS Society or Christ Church.
