He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel MacAskill and Dolena MacAskill (MacLeod); his wife Honey (Dill); his sons-in-law, Bernie Sanford, Gregory Fisher and Carmie Best; and his brother John MacAskill (Eleanor).
He is survived by: his children, Arnie MacAskill (Maureen) of Lacombe, AB, John MacAskill (Cherrie) of Berwick, Dona Lea Hawkes (James) of Berwick, Bonnie Best-Fisher (late Greg) of Garland and Sandi Frazee (Scott) of Cambridge; his grandchildren, Kenzie (Brian), Dani (Drew), Angie (Chad), Ashlea (Ryan), D. J. (Katie), Shannon (Kevin), Megan (Bremner), Jessie (Matt) and Kelsey (Jon); and his close friend Eleanor MacDonald of Port Morien. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.
