He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Edward "Frank" and Josephine Patricia "Pat" Madden (Burchell); and his brothers, Dennis and James. He is survived by: his friend L. O'Reilly; his wife Lavonah (Muloin); his sons, Rob (Anna) and Thomas "Tommy"; his grandchildren, Robert III, Nicolas "Nic", Mina, Marcus "Marc" and Lara; his siblings, Mary (Heinreich), Oldenburg, Michael (Brenda), Helene (Gene), Patrick and Shingo-Dawe; his sister-in-law Diane; and his friend William "Billy" Dundon III (Karen) of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and dear friends.

In 1998 in recognition of his contribution to chartered accountancy in Canada, Bob was appointed as a Fellow Chartered Accountant by the Nova Scotia Institute of Chartered Accountants (NSICA).
