He was predeceased by: his brother Danny; and his brother-in-law Max Hyde. He is survived by: his wife Veronica MacGillivary; his children, Claire, Joseph, Maggie (Dullah) and John (Jacqueline); the mother of his children Aurelia MacDonnell (Chiasson); his stepchildren, Vernon MacGillivary (Rose), Michelle Dobbin (Blaise), Tara Arsenault (Duane) and Ryan MacGillivary (Jaymie); his grandchildren, Lucassie, Maggie Mae and Zelabella; his sister Anna Hyde; and his sister-in-law Catherine Bonvie (Kevin). He is also survived by grandchild; his 11 step grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Martha's Regional Hospital Foundation or the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
