He was predeceased by: his parents, John J MacGillivray and Isabelle MacGillivray (Forbes). He is survived by: his friend Kenny Hudson; his wife Christina (Boyd); his children, Joan, Judy, Danny (Brenda) and Reg (Anne); his grandchildren, Nathan (Carolyn), Michael (Rosie), Sarah (Justin), Brian and Mark; his great grandchildren, Anneke, Forbes, Luke, Jack and Charlotte; his siblings, Helen Toth (Joseph), Ann Roache (Louis), Sadie Kennedy (Ronald), Johns MacGillivray, Rod MacGillivray (Mary C.), Colin MacGillivray, Kathleen MacDonald (Donnie), Florence Grant (Angus) and Mary MacGillivray; and his great grandchild Nora. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the RK MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation or the Antigonish Right to Life.
