It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Cyril James Grant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia), born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, who passed away on October 6, 2020, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Allan Grant and Alice Grant (Donahue); and his siblings, Teresa, Elaine and Gerald.

He is survived by: his wife Bernice Grant (Murphy); his daughter Carla Grant; and his sisters, Anne Flinn (late Bill) and Dr. Mary Grant. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Antigonish St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. “I loved Cyril's classes largely because he showed how much he enjoyed the subject. They were done with dry humour to get a point across and to keep us on track. You knew Cyril was well prepared and expected you to be as well. He could bring out the best in us. Cyril was approachable and took time to help when asked. I had him for econometrics and his enthusiasm for the subject was infectious. Because of him I turned to mathematics and enjoyed a long and enjoyable career teaching it.”

“Best Cyril story. A student entered class late and made his way to the back of the room. Cyril stopped and said there were plenty of seats towards the front. The student replied that he preferred the back. "Just like church," said Cyril. "Everyone wants to sit at the back! ". 🙂 I (in the second row) was feeling a little frisky and responded with something like "And you are God?" with a 🙂 . He immediately responded, "No, but I will be when I mark your final exam next week!":)”
