He was predeceased by: his parents, William Smith and Julia Smith (Cormier); his daughter Collette; his brothers, John Angus "Gussie" and Sandy; and his brothers-in-law, John Boyle and Danny Kelly.

He is survived by: his wife Helen (Mason); his children, Shaun, Tracy (Rick Palmer), NewMarket and Ont; and his siblings, Isabelle Teasdale (Lowell), Rita Kelly, Mary Boyle, Catherine "Kitty" Culleton, Donald (Marina), Bill (Linda) and Terry (Bonnie).

Memorial donations to Myotonic Dystrophy Association or Canadian Cancer Society.
