He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Townsend and Agnes Irene Grist (Pearcey); and his son Noel (Ruth). He is survived by: his son Craig (Amy); his granddaughter Eleanor Townsend; and his children, Sarah Wills (Mike), Virginia, Michael Townsend (Jan), Hailsham and England.
