He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur Goodwin and Mabel Goodwin (Cook); his son Ricky Matheson; and his sister Pauline Ripley (Wayne). He is survived by: his children, Debbie, Toula, Bette, Kathy and Larry; his grandchildren, Nicole, Heidi, Trevor, Jayden and Tamyra; his great grandchildren, Tyler, Macey and David-Jay; his sisters, Sandra McInnis (Roy) and Lynn Casey (Mike); and his nieces and nephews, Ann, Buffy, Penny, Troy, Roy, Devin and Darcy.

At the onset of COVID-19 they got trapped in separate nursing homes, unable to be together for four months.
