He was predeceased by: his parents, Lance Lusby and Beatrice Lusby (Sullivan); and his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Black. He is survived by: his daughter Venessa Lusby (Josh Dixon); his sister Margaret (Jim); his niece Angela Gallagher; his great-nephew Titus Gallagher; his brothers-in-law, Robin Black (Kelly), John Black (Deborah), George Goodwin, Danny Hicks and Laurie Hicks; and his nephews, Mike Black, Mark Black and Andrew Black.

Donations may be made in Alec's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Police Association of Nova Scotia and Crime Stoppers.
