Bennett George March Obituary

After completing all of his jobs and knowing that his family was near, on May 6th, 2023, at the age of 80, Ben folded his arms across his chest and finally took his rest. Ben was born in Brownsdale on November 17, 1942 and, after finishing high school in St. John's, returned there to help fight the fire of 1961. There he remained to fish with his father and brother and it was there he met and married his wife, Linda, and raised the family he adored. Ben was a man of multitudes; a fisherman, hunter, carpenter, gardener, lover of animals, a hard worker, an honest dealer, a lover and writer of poetry and literature, a generous spirit and a sometime mystic who saw life in it's full spectrum and with an infinite wit, intellect and humour which saw him through all life's challenges, includng his final days, with a smile on his handsome face and a thoughtful consideration to those he loved so freely and deeply.

Honourable and compassionate, Ben March dealt with the world honestly and energetically, giving of his time and effort, empathy and passion. There was no challenge that he did not meet head-on, and he faced his death as he faced his life - with 'gumption'. He was a bright light and that light he carried he shared with those he loved and those who loved him. The world has dimmed with his passing but some of that light remains in those whose lives he touched, and to his girls he remains the yardstick by which all others are measured.

Predeceased by his parents, Emma (nee Thorne) and Walter March; his sisters, Ida Koch, Ruby VanNest and brother-in-law Don, brother-in-law Richard Hassinger; nephew, Carlie Delgado; parents-in-law, Irene (nee Hedderson) and Chesley Button. Left to share their portion of his light are his loving wife Linda March (nee Button); adoring daughters, Dawn (Keith) Coles, and Darlene March (Glen Rideout); his two precious grandchildren, Justin March and Alexander Coles; siblings, brother Edward (Betty) March, sister Margaret Hassinger, brother-in-law, Ken Koch, sister Rebecca (Carlos) Delgado, sister Florence Thorne and the cousin he carried in his heart like a sister, Pearl (nee March) Moores, as well as many special nieces and nephews, relatives and friends who cared so very much for him.

By his own request there will be no viewing or service. No flowers, gifts or donations are required. His only wish would be to be fondly remembered. A quote from one of his favorites: "Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, when I embark;" - Lord Alfred Tennyson.
