He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony and Theresa; and his brother Tony Pennell. He is survived by: his sister Amelia Norman (Rod); his sister-in-law Joan Pennell (Brian); his nephew Steven (Bea); his nieces, Stephanie (Mike), Alicia (Ian) and Kasey (Joseph); his great-nephew Nicholas; his great-nieces, Charley, Toni and Baby Charlotte; his cousins, Gerard, Barry and Eugene; and his friend Jim Myrick.

In keeping with the Covid-19 restrictions Johnny's wishes will be carried out as soon as it is safe to do so.
