He was predeceased by: his wife Caroline Layman; his daughter Judy Abbott (Peter); his parents, Isabel Layman and Leo Layman; and his siblings, Bridget Shute, Angela Woods, Isabel Layman, Kay Mayo, Irene Layman, Gen Adams, Patrick, Michael, Leo, Gregory and John.

He is survived by: his children, Wayne (Geraldine), Barb Nolan (Mike), Ernie (Clare) and Wally (Linda); his brother Wally; his grandchildren, Nakita, Brooke, Michael, Nicholas, Krista and Jillian; his great grandchildren, Kaylee, Chloe, Hunter, Lorne, Emma, Hudson and Cameron; and his friend Ron Noftall. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Gathering Place in memory of Ernest.
