He was predeceased by: his parents, Captain John and Marcella Whelan; and his siblings, Dr. Patrick Whelan, John Whelan S. J., George Whelan, Agnes Greene and Mary Rockwell.

He is survived by: his wife Betty-Lou; his children, Beth and Paul (Sarah); his grandsons, Peter and William; and his sister-in-law Marie Whelan.

Following COVID-19 restrictions, relatives and friends may visit Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Sunday, Sept 20th, 2020 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Ronald Whelan's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland, 835 Topsail Road, or to The Gathering Place, 172 Military Road.
