It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alton Wilfred Joy (Stephenville, Newfoundland), who passed away on May 5, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Joy and Martina Joy; his parents-in-law, Augustus and Margaret Reid; his sister Patricia Besecker; his siblings-in-law, Marie Billard, Cecil Billard, Eugene Billard, Walt Major, Martin Walsh and Arlen Besecker (Bess); his nephew Denis Joy; and his niece Denise Strauss.
He is survived by: his wife Beatrice; his children, Brian (Susan), Martina Swyers (Cal), Kimberly Joy-Sharpe (Sean) and Marilee Joy-Castillo (Roland); his brothers, Kevin (Lillian), Denny (Leona) and Laurie (Norma); his grandchildren, Calvin Swyers (Sunni-Paige), Stephanie Swyers (Mark), William Joy, Sarah Joy (Siobhan), Megan Joy, Noah Castillo and Gracie Sharpe; his great grandchildren, Sophia, Amelia Bennett, Elijah, Ezra and Ivy Swyers; his siblings-in-law, Violet Billard, Thelma Major, Karen Watts (Howard), Cavel Mudge (Keith), Cauline MacDonald (Wayne), Lola Payne (Dan), Rowena Walsh, Bud Reid (Bess), Reg Reid (Marina), Hiram Reid (Myra), Gus Reid (Marina) and Ernest Reid (Nancy); and his caregivers, Lori Chaffey, Nars Campbell and Mary Ogden.
Donations in his memory may be made to a charity that was near and dear to his heart - the BSG Sick Children's Foundation.
