He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Whalen and Hester Whalen; and his brother George Whalen. He is survived by: his wife Christine Whalen; his children, Emerald (Dapo), Katie (Ryan), Jenny, Josh (Carly), Sarah (Justin) and Kavina; his grandchildren, Jade, Cambrai, Jacob, Kent, Emersyn, Josie, Corbin, Ashley, Ella, Allie and Emma; his siblings, Mary (Phillip), Brian (Calvin), Frances and Rita (Steve); his niece Barb (Richie); and his nephews, Junior (Denise) and Jay (Stephanie).
