He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Smith and Florence Smith; his stepfather Lewis Drover; his brother Leslie Drover; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Drover and Nina Drover.

He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth (Patterson); his daughters, Nicole (John) and Megan (Stephen); his grandchildren, Sophia and Gabriella; his siblings, Edward (Georgina), Wayne (Lois), Clyde (Jean) and Emmie (Paul); and his sister-in-law Marg. He is also survived by numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.
