He was predeceased by: his daughter Alice; his parents, Nelson Howell and Annie Howell; and his brothers, Cyril and Frank.

He is survived by: his wife Beatrice; his daughters, Bonnie (Mel) and Carolyn (Geoff); his grandchildren, Joe (Melinda), Becky (Darrin) and Pamela (Chris); his great grandchildren, Bailee, Logan, Leah, Liam and Trinity; his siblings, Byron (Ruth), Marie (Jim), Linda and Marilyn (Eddie); his siblings-in-law, Don (Ina), Silas (Carol), Roy (Suzette), Dale (Nelson), Emily, Eileen (Cal) and Mary; his daughter Cindy (Jim); his grandchildren, Morgan, Anna Kate and Hughie; his nephew Jason; and his caregivers, Nita, Laurie and Geoff. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or a donation may be made in Hughie's memory to St. Andrew's By The Sea United Church, Old Perlican.
