He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret Brake; his children, Annie Brake, Paul, Robert and Johnny Brake; his grandson Charlie Hanrahan; and his siblings, Matthew Brake and Vivian Butler.

He is survived by: his children, Joseph Brake (Bernadette) of Marystown, Leo Brake of Marystown, Ivan Brake of Marystown and Pauline Brake (Reuben Beazley) of Big Salmonier; and his sister Helen Norris of St. John's. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; plus a large number of extended family and friends.

Due to the current Public Health Advisory of COVID-19 a private family burial will take place.
