It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Durnford of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, who passed away on November 1, 2024, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, James Durnford and Annie Durnford; his parents-in-law, Francis and Catherine Ryan; and his brother-in-law Kevin (Shirley Ryan).

He is survived by: his family James "Jim" Durnford of Harbour Grace; his wife Mary; his siblings, Rick (Helen), Philip (Phoebe), Bill (Colleen), Roger (Pam), Dana, Mark (late Teri), Olive (Al Moraze), Stephanie (Gary Byrne) and Jayne (Gus Gosse); and his siblings-in-law, Gerald Ryan (Phyllis), Loretta Sullivan (late Harold), Rosemary Fahey (late Tim) and Sheila Ryan Hachey (Gene).

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to Baccalieu S. P. C. A. at baccalieutrailspca.net/donate or charity of one's choice.

“I remember Jim the most at Christmas; when we were small he always had a Christmas card for us with $5 in it that he gave us at "Soup Day" down at Potter's Mill. It made me feel grown up to get that card. Jim would whisper to us and ask if we thought we could get him some of Mom's Christmas cake in exchange for the cards, and then wink - he knew there was already a cake made especially for him each year. Great memories of a great man, our condolences to all his beloved family and friends.”
