He was predeceased by: his daughter Deborah; his brother Gerald; his parents, Stanley Bursey and Jane Bursey; his sisters, Beatrice Cooper (Edward), Eileen Nichols (Harry), Vera Bauld (Lester) and Nita Stockley (Harry); and his sister-in-law Margaret Bursey.

He is survived by: his children, Lloyd (Rose), Russell (Huaqing Zhou) and Roxane Bursey-Snow; his grandchildren, Gregory (Larissa), Sarah (Josh), Timothy, Jade, Aaron, Meena Bursey and Christopher Snow (Brittany); his siblings, Bill (Grand Falls-Windsor), Ron (Ontario) and Faith (Sim) Middleton; the mother of his children Belle Bursey; and his close friend Margaret Fleming.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's society in Russell's memory.
