He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Hynes and Daisy Hynes; his siblings, Selby (Marie) and Melinda (Don); his brother-in-law Stewart; his parents-in-law, Beatrice and George; and his sister-in-law Geraldine (Ron).

He is survived by: his wife Margaret; his children, Bernard (Kerina), Cathy (Frank) and Esther (Calvin); his grandchildren, Joshua (Emily), Daniel (Emily) and Noelle; and his siblings, David (Alma), Gilbert, Wallace (Viona), Milton (Daphne), Wilson (Winona), Rita, Bessie (Arthur), Helen (Patrick), Rowena (Timothy) and Ida (Howard). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other extended family and close friends.
