He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Gillis and Alfreda Gillis; his brother Douglas Gillis (Catherine); and his brother-in-law Patrick Power. He is survived by: his wife Theresa; his children, Daniel (Diane), Eugene (Diann), Agnes Madore (Ernest), Dominic (Edie), Hilda Butt (Morgan), Patrick (Krista), Harold (Tanya) and Terrence (Denise); and his siblings, Vera Bruce, Emeria Power and Malcolm Gillis (Florence). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Columcille Roman Catholic Parish in St. Fintan's.
