He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Gilbert and Elsie Gilbert; his siblings, Edith, Eric and Gordon; and his son-in-law Oral.

He is survived by: his wife Pearl; his children, Ivan (Audrey), Cathy Eveleigh (Frank) of Badger, Rick Gilbert (Melvina) of Badger, Keith Gilbert (Fatima) of Brampton, Janet Carter (Wayne) of Moncton, Leona Gilbert of Buchans, Stacey Carter (Ted) of Mississauga and Loretta Battiste (Eugene); and his sisters, Margaret Hunter (Tom) of Grand Falls and Ethel of Clarenville. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
