He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Sears and Ethel Sears (Sollows); his wife Erma; and his siblings, Leota Stairs and Rev. Stanley Sears (Sybil).

He is survived by: his children, Dr. Donna Sears of Kentville, NS and Roger; his daughter-in-law Tracy of Salisbury; and his brother-in-law Rev. Arnold Stairs of Charlottetown.

His mounted birds can be seen in various public buildings and homes, including contributions to the Grand Manan Museum where he acted as taxidermist since it's establishment.
