He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Blanch (Bonnell) and Herman James "Jimmy" Miller; his siblings, Joseph, Charles, Herman "Junior", Basil, Barbara Harrison and Gloria LeBlanc; his siblings-in-law, Velma, Kate, Mike Harrison, Alfred LeBlanc and Norman Swift; and his parents-in-law, Bernice (Wood) and Leon Sleep.

He is survived by: his wife Theresa (Sleep); his children, Michael Charters, Michelle (Dave) of Whitehorse, Stephanie Jeffery of Coles Island, Amanda Thorne (Mark) of Sussex and Jennifer Miller (John) of Quispamsis; his grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Mateo, Lana, Emma, Hannah, Willow, Jackson and Braxton; his sister Doreen Swift; his sisters-in-law, Georgina and Sharon; his children, Hannah and Jackson; and his brother Michael.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Burtis made to the charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
