He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hughes and Elizabeth Hughes; his wife Lorraine Knight; and his siblings, Margaret, James, Irene (Garnett) and Ian.

He is survived by: his children, Christie (Tom Aves) and Ritchie (Janet Reid); and his sister-in-law Sharon Hughes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
